Beverley Allitt: Serial Murderer and Evil Woman In Pop Culture

Evil is not a religious thing. It is a real thing, a part of us as humans in my opinion. In fact, I’m a believer in Carl Jung’s scientific and metaphysical perspective on evil. Somewhere along the line, some of us fall off balance in regards to good and evil. Serial murders a perfect example.

For many years, I’ve been a follower of serial murderers. They are some of the most interesting people ever. Most are male, but a few women stand out, Beverley Allitt being one of them. She’s the worst kind of killer. She was in a trusted position, working as a nurse…and she killed kids. One reason Beverly is so interesting is that she was diagnosed with Munchausen’s Syndrome and Munchausen’s by Proxy Syndrome: a rarity that she suffers from both. When she failed to receive the attention she demanded from her own psychosomatic ailments, she turned to killing to feed her needs.

Beverly was charged with 4 counts of murder, 11 counts of attempted murder, and 11 counts of causing grievous bodily harm. While I could go into all the details of each of the horrific acts she committed, the thing that stands out as worse is that someone should have figured out what she was doing much sooner than they did. Children suffered and died under her care for similar reasons in a few short months. Even in a hospital that sees patient after patient every day, the numbers were out of the ordinary, and someone should have put two and two together. But looking the other way is different kind of evil for another day.

Lucky for us, Beverly received 13 life sentences for murder and attempted murder. She’s locked away in a mental institute with no chance of getting out.
